Eye Center South has provided ophthalmic care to the Sarasota community since 1987, founded by Drs. Stuart A. Gindoff and Todd H. Morgan. Dr. Murray L. Friedberg joined the practice in 1993 and Dr. Bill Carr joined in 1999. In 2003, Dr. Lissa Rivero began practice at Eye Center South, and most recently, Margaret “Meg” Werker, O.D. joined the office in 2005.
Our doctors are all members of their professional organizations such as the American Optometric Association, American Medical Association, American Academy of Optometry, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Florida Optometric Association, and the Florida Academy of Ophthalmology. Each doctor is board certified in either optometry or ophthalmology.
Todd H. Morgan, OD, FAAO
A native of Marlette, Michigan, Dr. Morgan attended Michigan State University, majoring in Engineering. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1984 from the Illinois College of Optometry. He completed a clinical rotation in low vision at the Illinois Visually Handicapped Institute in Chicago.
Dr. Morgan is a board certified optometric physician. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Florida Division of Blind Services, Southern Council of Optometry and the Manasota Society of Optometry where he is a past president.
Dr. Morgan is married to Bobbi Morgan. They have two daughters, Katie and Kristy. Kristy is married to Logan Lowder. Both daughters are graduates of Sarasota High School. Kristy and Logan are graduates of Belmont University. Katie is a graduate of Hope College, North Florida University and the University of Florida.
Murray L. Friedberg, MD
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Pennsylvania State University where he also received his MD degree, Dr, Friedberg literally grew up in an eye care practice since his father is a doctor of optometry. His internship was completed at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio and his ophthalmology residency was completed at the Medical College of Virginia.
Further sub-specialization was taken at the renowned Jules Stein Eye institute at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) where his fellowship delved into corneal and external eye diseases and RK (refractive surgery). Dr. Friedberg is a clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, Florida.
William R. Carr, OD
A Sarasota, FL native, Dr. Bill Carr was a Biology major at the University of South Florida in Tampa before moving on to Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Vision Science. A member of the Beta Sigma Kappa honor society, he graduated with OD (Doctor of Optometry) degree from Nova Southeastern University in 1996. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Manasota Optometric Society.
Lissa Rivero OD, FAAO
A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Rivero is a board certified optometric physician, and low vision specialist. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Inter American University School of Optometry in Puerto Rico, where she graduated cum laude. After graduation, she completed a one-year residency program in Primary Care and Low Vision Rehabilitation at the Veterans Administration Medical Center and Eastern Blind Rehabilitation Center in West Haven Connecticut.
Dr. Rivero is a member of the American and Florida Optometric Association, and the Latin American Medical Association of Manasota. Being passionate about helping those with vision impairment, she is active with the Division of Blind Services, the Florida Low Vision Initiative and Manasota Lighthouse for the Blind. Dr. Rivero is fluent in English and Spanish.
Margaret Werker, OD
A native of Manchester, Connecticut, Dr. Werker received her bachelors degree in chemistry at Holy Cross College where she was a Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree at University of Houston were she was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa honor society.
Dr. Werker is a board certified optometric physician. Her professional affiliations include membership in the American Optometric Association, the Florida Optometric Association, and the Manasota Society of Optometrists. She has practiced in the Sarasota community for over 12 years.
